Hawarden's small garrison and later slighting

A tiny garrison left Hawarden vulnerable during Madog ap Llywelyn's revolt; later slighting is associated with Oliver Cromwell.

Notes

Hawarden was eventually captured during Madog ap Llywelyn's revolt, when its garrison had become tiny. The loss is attributed to too few defenders, even at a site so close to relief from England. The castle otherwise survived comparatively well until it was slighted in the English Civil War period. That deliberate destruction is associated with Oliver Cromwell. Substantial remains are still visible.
