Building defensible walls in 1283

Funding in May and the arrival of skilled workers in June and July put Harlech's inner walls at a defensible height by winter 1283.

Notes

Money for Harlech's initial construction arrived in mid-May 1283. Carpenters and stonemasons followed in June and July to begin the work. By winter the inner walls stood 15 feet high, enough to defend the site in an attack. A small planned town was founded beside the castle as construction proceeded.
