Hara survives Yahagi and Japan's final suicide missions

Hara's final sea command was the light cruiser Yahagi, flagship of the destroyer screen accompanying Yamato on Operation Ten-Go. He survived when Yahagi was lost, extending a career marked by escapes from ships and battles that killed many around him. He then trained sailors to operate Shinyo suicide boats during the war's final phase and witnessed the second atomic bombing. These assignments put the veteran destroyer officer inside several of Imperial Japan's most desperate end-stage operations.
