RBS-08 and Halland's protected Cold War systems

Småland's protected machinery controls and the RBS-08 missile show the defensive provisions and substantial anti-ship strike carried by the Halland class.

Notes

At about 2,600 to 2,650 tons standard and 3,350 tons fully loaded, Halland carried a broad weapons fit and protected machinery controls. Småland's engine-room control position illustrates the provision for operating in a biological or chemical warfare environment. The RBS-08 anti-ship missile combined radio-command guidance with active radar homing. Its quoted performance is about 43 miles of range at roughly 560 mph, with a missile weight near 2,000 pounds and a 250-kilogram warhead. That substantial missile strike supplemented the destroyer's existing torpedoes and guns.
