The later RBS-08 missile installation kept Halland's torpedo battery in place. The missile launchers sat above the torpedo launchers, allowing both weapons to point toward the same target. One ambush scenario had a destroyer emerge from behind an island and fire missiles while launching torpedoes almost simultaneously. Island ambushes formed part of Swedish naval doctrine, and this arrangement gave that tactic a combined missile-and-torpedo strike. It illustrates how a new weapon could extend the destroyer's existing armament.
