Close-in guns can complement point-defence missiles

The comparison asks whether another point-defence missile adds as much as a complementary gun layer with a deeper ammunition supply.

Notes

The preferred Maya fit would add close-in weapons and leave room for lasers or railguns. RAM is questioned because its role overlaps with the longer-reaching ESSM or CAMM already available for point defence. A gun supplies a different defensive capability and can carry many more individual rounds. Phalanx is still judged undergunned, so the preference for a complementary gun layer is not unqualified satisfaction with the existing system. These are suggested improvements and equipment preferences, rather than a description of Maya's installed fit.
