Sealift moved VII Corps through Dammam

Moving two armored divisions from Europe to Dammam in weeks illustrates the scale of Gulf War sealift.

Notes

Mercogliano recalls seeing the equipment of the US 1st and 3rd Armored Divisions laid out at Dammam during the Gulf War. Both belonged to VII Corps and had come from Europe. Moving that scale of armored force in roughly one or two months drew him into studying military and commercial logistics. The movement required transport ships and a port able to receive their cargo, illustrating the practical use of sea power.
