Grenades and channel control defeated the reserve

Portuguese troops cleared elevated missile positions while the Flor do Mar trapped the coalition's smaller boats in the channel.

Notes

Coalition archers fired from mastheads, and Portuguese attackers answered with clay grenades thrown into the elevated positions. The Flor do Mar then blocked the reserve war boats as they tried to descend the channel. It reportedly fired about six hundred shots, with some rounds striking more than one small craft. Wrecks from the leading boats obstructed those behind them and converted numerical strength into congestion. Supporting fire also broke up the chained galley line, leaving the remaining carracks to be captured or sunk.
