Chapter · 25:07-34:39

Grenada as part of a global war

The Battle of Grenada is set in the wider Anglo-French conflict, not treated as an isolated American Revolutionary War action.

Notes

Grenada belonged to a conflict that reached the Caribbean, the Channel, the Mediterranean, and the Indian Ocean. The American war mattered, but the expanding struggle made North America one theatre among several. The Second Anglo-Mysore War and the Battle of Cuddalore in the Bay of Bengal show how far the fighting had spread. Calling this a world war does not require modern total-war mobilization, which eighteenth-century states lacked the industry and administrative reach to sustain. Naval resources and strategic attention were dispersed across theatres that different national histories may classify under different war names.
