A marble floor divided into grid-like squares at the former naval college in Greenwich has been used for wargaming demonstrations by historians. Its layout suits the plotting of naval operations. Whether the floor was designed for wargaming or the activity was adapted to the floor remains unresolved. The apparent fit between a surviving feature and a historical practice does not settle its original purpose.
