In 1776 Gibraltar had 98 guns facing north, together with mortars and howitzers, but those weapons represented about twelve different calibres. Another 300 guns stood on the Line Wall and south front, with room for more pieces that were not yet mounted. By the opening of the siege in 1779, the calibres had become much more uniform and the available guns were mounted. The comparison makes the scale of Green's programme visible: readiness depended on organising the fortress's armament as well as building stronger walls.

Green standardises Gibraltar's fortress artillery before the siege
A comparison of Gibraltar's guns in 1776 and 1779 shows Green replacing a scattered mixture of calibres with a more uniform and fully mounted artillery system.
