Greek submarines carry the fight after Greece falls

French-built Greek boats continued Allied service, including clandestine missions inserting agents into occupied Crete.

Notes

The Katsonis and Protefs classes were small French-built torpedo submarines whose histories are richer than their sparse photographic record suggests. Their construction in France reflects that country's strong interwar reputation for submarine technology. Greek boats transferred under British direction after the fall of Greece and performed patrols and covert work, including inserting Special Operations Executive agents into Crete. Their compact Mediterranean design contrasted with Poland's somewhat larger Baltic boats, and the Greek submarines lacked a minelaying role.
