Chapter · 1:52-4:47

Submarines and mines for Greek coastal denial

The Greek fleet is recast as a sea-denial force using American-built submarines and mines to protect eastern supply routes and constrain Italian logistics.

Notes

With British, French, and Dutch yards unavailable or preoccupied, the United States is Greece's plausible source of additional submarines. Those boats would support a defensive campaign rather than seek a conventional fleet battle. Mines and submarines could deny Italy easy use of Greece's western coast while keeping the eastern seaboard open to Allied supplies. Greece also has some torpedo aircraft, although air power remains the air force's responsibility rather than the navy's primary remedy. Pushing Italian coastal shipping farther north would lengthen and complicate the logistics supporting an Italian land campaign.
