Chapter · 1:11:40-1:13:56

Reinforcing Greece after an early victory in Libya

An early end to the Libyan campaign could bring rested Allied troops to Greece sooner, while Mussolini's possible fall opens different diplomatic outcomes.

Notes

If the Libyan campaign ended by January 1941, troops could rest and reorganize before Greece required reinforcement in March and April. French troops might join the British contingent, and some forces could reach forward positions earlier. A stronger Allied fleet with more carriers would make Italian intervention at sea difficult. If Mussolini fell, Germany would have to decide whether invading Greece still justified the commitment. Greece's movement towards the Allies would give Germany a reason to intervene, while a Greek victory over Italy without outside assistance could leave room for continued neutrality.
