Two versions survive of Granger's remark

Accounts disagree over whether Granger said that all hell could not stop the advancing soldiers or that nothing could stop his boys once they got going.

Notes

Two versions survive of Gordon Granger's response when Grant demanded to know who had ordered the climb. One has him say that once those fellows got started, all hell could not stop them. Another says that once his boys got going, nothing could stop them. The first version is treated as the more likely wording, although sources support both forms.
