Gozo faced later attacks in 1613 and 1709, but the 1551 assault created an enduring documentary loss. Ottoman forces destroyed the university archives, and few island records from the episode survived. The destruction makes the campaign harder to reconstruct from local evidence even after fortifications and settlements were rebuilt. Archives were part of the island's wartime vulnerability as well as a source for its military history.
