Keppel's capture of Goree in West Africa

Keppel's warships reduced the fortified island of Goree, giving Duncan a close view of one of the Seven Years' War's less familiar West African campaigns.

Notes

Keppel commanded an eleven-warship expedition against a garrison of roughly three hundred men supported by 110 guns and mortars. The British force closed, bombarded the defenses, and captured the island off Senegal. Britain then retained Goree until the Treaty of Paris in 1763, turning a successful assault into a five-year occupation. Duncan's experience now extended beyond European coastal raids. The West African operation also places the Seven Years' War in its wider global geography.
