After his assigned opponent withdrew, Henry Harvey steered Ramillies toward the fighting around his brother John's Brunswick. Brunswick had been locked against Vengeur du Peuple at point-blank range, and John Harvey was mortally wounded by langrage, an improvised cannon load of scrap, bolts, stones, and old musket balls. Brunswick also dismasted Achille and forced her to strike. Achille raised her colours again when Brunswick could not send a boat to take possession, then tried to rejoin the French fleet. Ramillies relieved Brunswick, took Vengeur's surrender, and pursued Achille to secure her surrender too. Accounts conflict over whether Henry reached John before his death, so a final meeting remains uncertain.
