Chapter ยท 2:49:31-2:58:29

Captured ships, the convoy, and competing memories

The British secured several prizes while Vengeur sank, but France celebrated the convoy's arrival and Britain rewarded the fleet unevenly.

Notes

After the battle, damaged British crews had to repair ships and secure prizes while the French convoy reached Atlantic ports. Vengeur du Peuple could not be saved, although boats rescued many of her crew. France celebrated the convoy's arrival even though its navy had suffered its worst single-day loss since the Battle of La Hogue in 1692. The aftermath also included British promotions, pensions, delayed medals, and the professional consequences for Captain Molloy.
