The proposed global regiment consists of company-sized Royal Marine units separate from the commandos that form amphibious battle groups. Each forward-deployed landing or support ship would normally carry a company commanded by a major for independent regional missions. Eight companies would keep four deployed while the others rotated through relief, training, and recovery at home. Four regular and two reserve commandos would remain available for the larger battle groups and brigade structure.

A global Royal Marine regiment for smaller missions
Small Royal Marine companies embarked on forward-deployed landing ships would give the fleet a rotating force for independent regional missions while preserving larger commandos for battle groups.
