Chapter · 19:13-21:28

Girona's overloaded escape and wreck off Ireland

After rounding Scotland, Girona took aboard survivors in Ireland and was wrecked with roughly 1,300 people crowded aboard.

Notes

Girona survived the Armada fighting and storms around Scotland. Her captain, a Knight of Malta, appears to have been a capable sailor and brought her into Killybegs, where local assistance prepared the ship to continue. Survivors and senior personnel from other Spanish losses crowded aboard, raising her complement to roughly 1,300. A later storm drove the ship ashore near Dunluce Castle. Only nine people survived and were taken to Scotland, while 260 bodies were reported found on the beaches.
