Originally intended to be named Alexander Nevsky, Gerzog Edinburgski received her new name before launch. She served in the Far East from 1879 to 1884 and in the Mediterranean from 1897 to 1900 before becoming a training vessel. Converted with her sister into a second-line minelayer in 1908, she later became a depot ship and passed through further revolutionary-era renamings. She survived until scrapping in 1949, while General-Admiral may have remained in existence until 1953, although that disposal date is uncertain.
