French-built Flower corvettes completed for German service

Germany completed captured French Flower-class hulls as patrol ships for coastal convoy, fire-control, and anti-aircraft work, exposing them to Allied motor torpedo boats.

Notes

Several Flower-class corvettes ordered in France fell into German hands before completion. The Kriegsmarine finished ships including PA 2 and PA 3 for patrol, coastal convoy, fire-control, and anti-aircraft duties. Their lighter German weapons fit reflected those missions but also left limitations, particularly in the performance of the 37 mm armament. Encounters with Dutch and British motor torpedo boats show how captured escort hulls were drawn into the contested coastal war.
