German planning and the drive into Romania

Romania's limited warning meets a carefully prepared German drive whose short supply lines temporarily reward fast-moving commanders despite their logistical risks.

Notes

Romania has little time to mobilise because the German advance continues through Hungary toward the oil region rather than stopping at the frontier. That surprise plays to the German army's strength in pre-planned attacks and makes the operation a classic product of the Prussian staff tradition. Heinz Guderian and Erwin Rommel push armoured forces ahead at speed in this scenario. Short lines of communication may let that work initially, but the joke about Rommel ignoring supply exposes the logistical weakness beneath a successful operational dash.
