British strength could push Germany toward a carrier battle group

A stronger Royal Navy makes lone German raiders less viable and may redirect German resources toward Graf Zeppelin and a concentrated surface group.

Notes

With several King George V-class battleships and worked-up British carriers available, a solo Bismarck sortie becomes much riskier. Raeder could use British success at Taranto and Norway to argue for Bismarck, Tirpitz, Graf Zeppelin, and cruisers to operate together. Concentrating that force would take until at least mid-1941 and would draw resources away from U-boats. Britain would see the concentration developing and could answer with multiple carriers, all five KGVs, fast cruisers, and a slower supporting group, turning the Atlantic sortie into a fleet battle on British terms.
