Germany explored sophisticated aerial-torpedo ideas during the First World War, including a remotely controlled aircraft carrying a torpedo. Such concepts anticipated some features of later uncrewed warfare. The experimentation did not become a mature interwar production program. By 1939 output was below five aerial torpedoes per month and roughly half failed in testing, leaving the carrier project without a dependable primary weapon.
