Généreux was a Téméraire-class 74-gun ship launched at Rochefort in 1785. After escaping the Battle of the Nile, she captured the 50-gun HMS Leander. During a convoy voyage to Corfu in March 1799, her captain chose to bombard Brindisi and was killed in the resulting exchange of fire. Généreux later covered other vessels during the Malta convoy action of February 1800 before being captured herself. Her battle ensign was presented to Norwich by Berry and Nelson and survives as an artefact of the action. She entered British service and was eventually broken up in 1816. Leander followed a different route back to Britain: the Russians recaptured her at Corfu in 1799 and returned her to the Royal Navy.
