Why future-war comparisons need the whole task group

A drone or missile salvo against an isolated warship tests a different problem from attacking a mutually supporting task group.

Notes

Even a powerful warship can be overwhelmed when it is isolated and an opponent can mass drones and missiles for a timed attack. That vulnerability repeats an old fleet problem and does not prove that one new weapon has made large ships obsolete. Wartime navies form task groups so ships can share sensors, weapons, logistics, and defensive coverage. The whole formation is the useful unit for judging whether an attack can succeed.
