Fubuki's torpedo punch meets the fuel budget

Nine 610 mm torpedo tubes and a longer cruising range improve Fubuki's strike potential, though fast attacks still shorten its practical reach.

Notes

Nine 610 mm torpedo tubes gave Fubuki a substantial attack capability alongside its 5,000-nautical-mile cruising range. An illustrative sortie allows about 1,800 nautical miles outward and the same distance home, leaving fuel equivalent to 1,400 nautical miles of economical cruising for combat. That reserve buys much less distance at more than 30 knots. Increasing speed from 14 to 35 knots is estimated to multiply fuel use by roughly three or four, exceeding the proportional increase in speed. Longer cruising range improves the chance of reaching the enemy, but high-speed attacks still require a separate fuel allowance.
