Commissioned as Frunze in 1984, the ship sailed around the Cape of Good Hope to join the Pacific Fleet, visiting Luanda, Aden, and Vietnam in a substantial naval-diplomacy deployment. Training continued into the early 1990s before inactivity and lack of overhaul funding took hold. Later modernization announcements did not reverse the deterioration, and imagery and disposal contracts pointed instead toward dismantling. Its long berth near a nuclear-vessel decommissioning facility underlines how preservation status can become a slow path to disposal when overhaul money never arrives.
