Frigate fleets already outnumber destroyer fleets

Far more countries operate frigates than destroyers in this fleet-count comparison, putting the apparent rise of frigate navies in perspective.

Notes

The fleet-count estimate is 119 nations operating a navy or another military maritime service. Depending on the counting method, around 45 to 50 operate frigates, compared with 13 operating destroyers. The corresponding count for aviation ships is 15 operators when drone carriers, amphibious aviation ships and aircraft carriers are grouped together. These totals depend on how the ship categories are defined. On that basis, frigate-centred naval forces were already common when the video was recorded, even while the ships themselves continued to change.
