The preferred arrangement has two crewed frigates with uncrewed surface vessels around them. A three-USV example is judged too small for that task. The alternative suggested here is four to six larger USVs and about a dozen smaller vehicles around the perimeter. These are proposed numbers for a future group, not an account of an existing deployed force. They follow the argument that larger command ships still need enough smaller assets to cover the surrounding sea.

A proposed convoy group combines two frigates with numerous USVs
The closing force-design proposal keeps crewed frigates at the centre of a much larger uncrewed escort screen.
