Could the Tiger Cubs have revived the frigate name?

Contemporary naming debates make frigate a plausible label for a medium 9.2-inch cruiser between light cruisers and battlecruisers.

Notes

Station cruiser sounded dull, medium cruiser carried awkward period meanings, and dreadnought cruiser risked confusion with battlecruisers. Officers such as Jellicoe regarded 'large light cruiser' as political wordplay that said little about a warship's role. John Fisher had already returned the word frigate to discussion, making it a possible name for these ships. Heavy and light frigate categories could then distinguish the 9.2-inch ships from smaller cruisers. During the Second World War, sloops used naval construction, corvettes stayed close to merchant practice, and twin-screw frigates occupied an intermediate position. Using frigate for a cruiser category earlier could leave the later anti-submarine escort needing a different name.
