Frigate briefly disappeared while corvette endured

By the dreadnought era, most navies used destroyer for the smaller combatant and retained corvette below it, while frigate had largely dropped from service.

Notes

By the dreadnought era, frigate had largely disappeared from naval service. A few navies retained the term as a link to earlier traditions, but most moved toward destroyer for their smaller combatants. Corvette remained in use among the names for vessels below destroyer size. Destroyers and battleships continued growing even as the older frigate label fell out of common use.
