Could France have licensed the Yorktown design?

The Yorktown concept offered France a faster design path, but Mediterranean vulnerability and severe dockyard bottlenecks made a British pattern more plausible.

Question

Would France have been better off licensing the US Yorktown carrier design?

Short answer

It was an attractive shortcut, but Mediterranean protection needs and France's shortage of large shipways made a British-style carrier or another path more realistic.

Notes

A licensed Yorktown might have worked in the Atlantic and could theoretically have produced useful ships before the fall of France. A mixed air group of fighters, dive-bombers, and torpedo-bombers would not have solved the deck-protection problem. The design looked less suitable under heavy land-based air attack in the Mediterranean. More decisively, French large slips were already occupied by Richelieu-class battleships, making construction capacity and foreign purchasing politics harder barriers than obtaining drawings.
