French submarines preserve Britain's Far East screen

French submarines in the Mediterranean and Atlantic would relieve demands that historically drew British boats away from the Far East. Some British submarines might still be withdrawn, but a complete withdrawal is considered unlikely. Britain's planned defense relied on submarines and cruisers harassing Japanese forces until the main fleet arrived. Retaining more of that screen would preserve an existing deterrent posture.
