Chapter ยท 4:23-4:53

French infrastructure and Mediterranean operations

North African repair facilities and nearby airfields could sustain Allied ships and convoys in the Mediterranean.

Notes

French North African ports gave Allied ships places to withdraw after damage on Mediterranean convoy operations. Facilities at Casablanca and along the North African coast could support a fleet operating far from its home yards. Air bases behind the naval bases added another form of support along the same routes. Keeping this infrastructure available would affect how long ships could remain useful in the theatre.
