Ways officers could have evaded the Commando Order

False administrative records or quietly releasing prisoners offered possible ways to resist the order to kill captured commandos.

Notes

Officers opposed to the Commando Order had possible ways to avoid killing captured men. They could report raiders killed in action or register them as prisoners taken earlier, such as at Dunkirk. A more active alternative was to transport prisoners to the Spanish border and release them. These hypothetical examples illustrate ways to evade the order; they do not establish what happened to the Frankton prisoners.
