During the SS Hong Moh disaster, Foxglove helped recover survivors and guided the larger cruiser Carlisle to the wreck. Conflicting sources give different figures for the people rescued before Carlisle continued the operation, a caution about treating disaster totals as exact. In 1940 the old sloop was still escorting convoys and remained afloat after a dive-bombing attack. She subsequently served as a base and harbour guard ship before disposal in 1946, giving a war-emergency hull more than three decades of naval service.
