Fox carries Civil War naval administration into a cruiser

USS Fox was the third American warship to commemorate Gustavus Vasa Fox, a Mexican-American War officer and Civil War assistant secretary of the Navy.

Notes

Gustavus Vasa Fox served as a US Navy officer during the Mexican-American War and as assistant secretary of the Navy during the Civil War. The Belknap-class Fox followed an earlier torpedo boat and Clemson-class destroyer as the third US Navy vessel named for him. Reusing the name carried the memory of nineteenth-century naval administration across several generations of ship type and technology. The video closes this namesake section by imagining Fox on a future guided-missile combatant.
