Four-ship orders exposed Russia's rebuilding limits

A capable but slow class of four shows why respectable specifications could not rebuild the destroyer force after the Russo-Japanese War.

Notes

Later alterations included 4-inch guns, 1.5-inch anti-aircraft guns, and fittings to carry 25 mines, despite the class comprising only four ships. Their original machinery combined Schultz-Schichau boilers with triple-expansion engines producing 6,500 indicated horsepower for 25 knots. Armament included two 3-inch guns, six 57 mm guns, four 7.62 mm machine guns, and three 17.7-inch torpedo tubes. The ships were well armed and capable of their intended work, although slow beside contemporary destroyers. A four-ship order was inadequate for a major power rebuilding after the Russo-Japanese War.
