Foreign support networks create strategic dependence

American weapon systems offer a deep support network, but reliance on another country's infrastructure can give that supplier leverage during a disputed conflict.

Notes

Choosing an American missile system can give a small navy access to mature logistics, training, maintenance, and technical support. That efficiency is valuable because building an independent support network for every weapon is expensive. The trade-off is strategic dependence: the supporting country can decline involvement, withhold assistance, or delay it through claimed technical difficulties. Infrastructure and logistics are therefore political design constraints as well as engineering ones.
