The name Force K covered three very different wartime formations. Renown and Ark Royal formed the 1939 group; Aurora and Penelope drove the 1941 Malta raiding force; and Cleopatra, Dido, Euryalus, Tribal-class, and J-class destroyers formed the 1942 return. Radar fit also shaped which ships led the night actions. Reusing the label conceals how each formation's mission, ship mix, and tactical tools changed with the war.
