Chapter ยท 1:13-3:20

Force K as sea control in practice

Force K shows how sea control could restrict an enemy through routine operations far removed from a fleet action.

Notes

Force K shows the difference between gaining command of the sea and exploiting it. Mahan's treatment of a nation seeking sea control draws more attention than Corbett's interest in what a navy does after it has control. The large fleet action is only one part of naval war. Force K belongs to the day-to-day work of granting or denying maritime access and applying steady pressure to an enemy's movement, trade, and supply system.
