Aurora and Penelope were the two Arethusa-class light cruisers in the 1941 Force K. Two L-class destroyers completed the raiding group. The ships carried fairly heavy anti-aircraft armament between them. That armament gave the force some protection when it went out from Malta to attack convoys.
