Footwork keeps a cut recoverable

A side-by-side demonstration shows how a stable step lets a fighter cut and recover, while poor footwork leaves them off balance and exposed.

Notes

A large cut from a casual stance twists the body out of balance, weakening the blow and making an immediate counter more dangerous. The guest demonstrates how an exaggerated swing can leave the head and upper body exposed after a miss. With the feet placed and the step coordinated with the strike, the demonstrator remains stable enough to recover into defence. The lesson treats a two-handed sword as both offence and defence, so balance and recovery after the first action matter as much as the initial cut.
