Berwick carried Churchill across the Atlantic

BOAC's Boeing 314 Berwick carried Winston Churchill and Lord Beaverbrook home after wartime talks, turning civil flying-boat reach into strategic transport.

Notes

The Boeing 314 fleet included Pan Am's named Clippers and three aircraft operated by the British Overseas Airways Corporation. One of the latter, Berwick, carried Winston Churchill and Lord Beaverbrook back to Britain after their post-Pearl Harbor visit to the United States. The journey is presented as the first transatlantic flight by a serving head of government. A commercial long-range platform could thus become diplomatic and strategic transport when wartime travel demanded both speed and oceanic reach.
