The World War I Flower pattern shaped later escorts

The Flower sloops established a durable small-escort pattern later refined into interwar sloops, wartime corvettes, escort destroyers, and frigates.

Notes

The World War I design established a small-escort pattern that interwar sloop programs refined rather than discarded. Its stability is judged broadly comparable to the World War II Flower corvette, and later peacetime programs developed the same basic template. The lineage runs through the Black Swan class, World War II Flower-class corvettes, Hunt-class escort destroyers, and River-class frigates. An emergency minesweeper and escort became the ancestor of several distinct small-warship families.
