The video surveys floating docks ranging from small lifts for torpedo boats to 55,000- and 60,000-ton facilities capable of supporting battleships. Their deployments followed operational demand: docks went to Reykjavík for the North Atlantic convoy war, Sydney for Pacific support, Bermuda and Singapore for overseas stations, and Scapa Flow for the Home Fleet. These were staffed technical commands rather than empty pontoons. A mixed crew of engineers and naval constructors operated ballast systems and travelling cranes, while welders and other trades arrived from repair ships or shore establishments. Mobile docks therefore worked as part of a larger support package that could move maintenance capacity toward a fleet.
