Float Swordfish could provide reconnaissance and torpedo attack

Float-equipped Swordfish served aboard Royal Navy battleships and could carry torpedoes, giving a tender network a strike capability against surface raiders.

Notes

Float-equipped Swordfish were a regular part of Royal Navy battleship aviation in 1939-1941. Warspite used one at Narvik. The floats did not prevent the aircraft from taking off with a torpedo. Tender-supported Swordfish could therefore provide reconnaissance and attack capability in distant waters where Britain needed to protect trade against surface raiders.
